THE FIRST ELECTRIC METROBUS LINE IN CDMX STARTS OPERATIONS WITH GOAL SYSTEMS

The first all-electric Metrobus line in Mexico City has just started operations, with 60 100% electric articulated units, which represents a historic precedent in electromobility for Mexico and Latin America.

The Mexican capital takes a big step forward towards sustainability with the commissioning of the all-electric Metrobus line 3, whose initiative will reduce emission levels in the city by 123K tonnes of CO2 annually, significantly improving air quality, as advocated in the 2019-2024 Environmental and Climate Change Programme, which among its commitments contains the promotion of electromobility. It will also bring added benefits for users, such as greater comfort and safety, as well as less noise.

The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, led the launch of the new electric units, which added to the 10 already in circulation, make a total of 60 units. These will have the autonomy to make 8 laps of the corridor with just one battery charge. The capital city’s mayor explained that the Federal Electricity Commission provides the necessary electricity, while the Yutong company, a private company, provided all the infrastructure for the system that supplies the buses. She also pointed out that other lines are already being considered to switch to this technology, which is less polluting than diesel vehicles.

These electric articulated units will move 200,000 users a day on a 21-kilometre route from Tenayuca to the area near the Coyoacán mayor’s office. The general director of Metrobús, Roberto Samuel Capuano Tripp, explained that “they have a capacity for 160 people, they are the articulated buses that we know on line 3, they have the same characteristics; in other words, they fit the same number of people, they will have their USB ports, they have these modern doors that project outwards, they are high entry, obviously, because on line 3 remember that we go up to a station before boarding the bus, and they have an autonomy of (…) 330 kilometres per charge”.

The investment for the acquisition of these buses amounted to 900 million pesos, in addition to a switchyard with 32 chargers that allow recharging in 3 hours.

Goal Systems is proud to do our bit in designing the programming for this important commissioning. Thanks to our electric fleet module, we are ready to continue supporting Metrobus with the electromobility challenges of the future, as our technology helps to easily configure and manage the specific constraints and operational parameters of buses, batteries and charging points. With this solution, the scheduling of different types of buses and batteries, as well as the capacity of recharging points, the management of battery autonomy and recharging times, can be carried out in a more efficient and sustainable way.
